Smoothic Resource Pack 1.7.5

Minecraft is the kind of game that can become a whole new experience, at least for a time, just by updating the look of things. Smoothic is a resource pack for Minecraft 1.7.5 which manages to make some major changes in the look of the game while retaining many standard features. This allows it to keep the player’s attention by making them do a double take every time they look at something that doesn’t seem quite the same. That particular list contains numerous entries, including all the animals present in the game. Cows, pigs, sheep and chickens all have updated faces, bodies and color schemes.

While some of the changes are really noticeable, like the appearance of the animals, other elements of the Smoothic resource pack look very much like they do in the regular Minecraft game. Villagers still retain the same blocky heads and giant noses which make them look so goofy. Trees are still rather ugly things, kind of veiny and with opaque leaves on even the highest graphical settings. Normally this only occurs when the quality is turned down, but Smoothic sets it as a standard feature. While snow looks more or less the same, ice and the water around said ice all look remarkably different from the Minecraft standard. Deep whites and blues really stand out where there wasn’t much going on before.

Some players have complained in the past about how similar sand, sandstone and sandstone derivatives look from a distance in Minecraft. It’s true, too; unless the player is right on top of them, all those blocks look the same, even from a short distance. The Smoothic resource pack does a good job of differentiating them by making sand a kind of electric orange color, while allowing sandstone to keep the old, slightly tan shades. Shadows in Smoothic don’t look any more or less like shadows in Minecraft standard, which could be good or bad depending on the player.
