How to install any resource packs for Minecraft?

These tutorials are meant to help you use resource packs in Minecraft. Texture Packs change the look of Minecraft so that blocks look different, items look different, mobs look different, etc. but they do not change the actual game play.

Windows

  1. Download a resource pack, you should get a .zip file
  2. Open the folder, in which you downloaded the file
  3. Copy the .zip file
  4. Open .minecraft
  5. Click on “Options” / “Resource Packs”
  6. Choose “Open resource pack folder”. This opens a Windows Explorer window.
  7. Paste the file in the actual directory
  8. Go back to Minecraft, the resource pack should now be listed and you can activate it by choosing it and hitting “Done”.

Direct method

  1. Download a resource pack, you should get a .zip file
  2. Open the folder, in which you downloaded the file
  3. Copy the .zip file
  4. Press Windows + R then type in: %appdata%/.minecraft/resourcepacks for 1.7.4 and up
  5. Paste the file into the directory
  6. Open Minecraft
  7. Go to “Resource Packs”
  8. The resource pack should now be listed and you can activate it by choosing it and hitting “Done”.

Mac OS X

  1. Download a resource pack of your choice
  2. Do NOT unzip the texture pack just move the .zip file to minecraft’s texture pack folder (Should be at ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/resourcepacks)
  3. Open up Minecraft and login
  4. At the options in game select “Resource Packs”
  5. Now select your new resource pack and then select done
  • If your resource pack doesn’t show up when you click “Resource Packs” make sure that the resource pack is still in .zip format, and that it is in Minecraft’s resource pack folder

To access ~/Library/ on a Mac running Mac OS X 10.7 and above, switch to Finder, open the ‘Go’ Menu, and whilst holding down Option, select ‘Library’

Linux

  1. Download a resource pack, you should get a .zip file
  2. Open the folder, in which you downloaded the file
  3. Copy the .zip file
  4. Open Minecraft
  5. Click on “Resource Packs”
  6. Choose “Open resource pack folder”. This opens a file manager window (the file manager depends on your configuration).
  7. Paste the file in the actual directory
  8. Go back to Minecraft, the resource pack should now be listed and you can activate it by choosing it and hitting “Done”.

/.minecraft/resourcepacks/ in your file manager’s address bar or in the console.
